Hand Engraving

At the pewterscribe we specialise in engraving most things by hand. This means we are not confined by the constraints of either mechanical or digital engraving machines. Thus giving us the ability to handle most shapes and even most surfaces, removing the restrictions that others may encounter when presented with different materials. So why are we are called the pewterscribe? as we have just said we have no trouble engraving on any other metal, plastics, glass and crystal. We have even been known to engrave stone, slate and even some hardwood.

Engraving based designs

What exactly does that mean? Well, our working artist is primarily a hand engraver who designs and makes items from the point of view of hand engraving or carving, which is a related discipline. Lets look at this in a little bit more detail. While we are primarily hand engravers, but we do offer other forms of engraving services, our craftsman has studied the many applications of traditional engraving. Disciplines like Printing plates, coin making, wax seal making and others have their origins in hand engraving, even to this day hand engraving is still used for the printing plates for bank notes. Of course in this day and age, with the advances in technology all around us there are other options for generating these items. In some instances we use a blend of technology and hand craft to produce some of our pieces. For instance we use 3D printing to test the accuracy of some of our embossing tools before we make them in harder materials either acrylic or brass, a 3D printed embossing tool will last a while, but the pressures of embossing will quickly destroy it.

  • Embossed Belts, The embossing tools are designed and made by our Craftsmen.
  • Belt Buckles, designed and made in our own studio.
  • Brass, Bronze and Pewter Badges, Labels, medals or coins.
  • Bronze, Pewter and Silver Jewellery, either hand made or small batch cast
  • Hand Engraving or Sandblasted designs on glassware

Most of these types of items are hand made on our own premises and are exclusively available from our online sales team or in person at an event or from our studio, by prior arrangement.

Hand Embossed Belts

We hand make embossing tools and supply high quality vegetable tanned embossed belts. The belts are available in a range of colours. Our Belts are available as standard up to 54" waist, but as belt makers we can make any size. These belts are designed to work with our range of display buckles, and by using the press studs at the buckle end the buckles can be easily changed.

Odin's Shield Belt Buckle.

Hand Made Belt Buckles.

We make a wide range of hand crafted belt buckles with a heavy bias toward the Celtic and Nordic styles. These tend to be fairly intricate and take a considerable time to originate to a point we are happy with them. We are not claiming these are all strictly authentic, but our interpretation based on extensive study and research. We have the capacity to make individual designs of buckle, where you can discuss your own design directly with our Craftsmen for the production of your own buckle, either a one off or a small run.
